Lübeck is a very fine city. I ended up spending two nights there and will one day go back to explore more. It's a canal-ringed medieval port that led the Hanseatic league. It has a red-bricked, copper-spired solidity about it. It's a dead-ringer for Bruges, but earthier and peopled by people rather than tourists. Very straightforwardly friendly locals. The last major city on my route for 2000 kilometres.
